What Happened to the Hope?
26 October, 2024
Remember the days when movies could transport you to a world of ambition, charm, and a whole lot of fish-out-of-water humor? "The Secret of My Success" was one such gem.
This 1987 classic, starring Michael J. Fox, perfectly captured the essence of the 80s: big hair, power suits, and the relentless pursuit of the American Dream. Fox's portrayal of a small-town boy navigating the corporate jungle of New York City was both hilarious and inspiring. The soundtrack was also killer throughout the movie.
What made this film so special was its blend of comedy, drama, and romance. It wasn't just about the laughs; it was about the characters, the journey, and the message that with hard work, determination, and a bit of luck, anyone can achieve their dreams. 80s cinema was a beacon of hope, a time when dreams were limitless and underdogs could triumph. This era was marked by a pervasive optimism that permeated films across genres.
Sadly, we don't see many movies like this anymore. Today's films often rely on CGI, superheroes, or dystopian futures. While these can be entertaining, they lack the heart and soul of classic comedies like "The Secret of My Success."
So, the next time you're looking for a feel-good movie that will make you laugh, cry, and cheer, revisit this 80s classic. It's a reminder of a simpler time when movies were about more than just special effects.

Am I a normie?
26 October, 2024
Part of me feels very normie. I see myself as pretty normie. I go to anime conventions and don't go all out on my cosplays. I was only ever a script kiddie at best, a nuisance at worst. I wouldn't say I'm THAT terminally online. I was into crypto around 2010-2011 and that was only because hacking groups around me were accepting donations with it. Surprisingly looking back at it, I think I became more normie as I grew up. I stopped being in the IRC chatrooms and darkweb as I got a job and the interest of online waned.
I do however fancy other things that may make me more on the fringe or edge of social circles. I use
Mastodon,
xmpp, DeltaChat, Tox,
Retroshare, and really into my homelab server. Oh and the obvious, I still have a website I'm updating and using HTML in the year 2024. I could say my hobbies these days seem niche certainly, but maybe it's that I found a more open community in a lot of aspects that make me seem "normal".
Enjoying simplicity

'So I've been on a bit of a nostalgia trip lately. I currently lay here typing away on my laptop as my TV is playing Cheat from an old recording of G4TV being streamed from my Jellyfin server. I also have found my old GBA SP recently but not the charger. I have been cutting back on subscription services as well.
I think it's very intersting to look back at things. I bought an old Nokia n810 so I can ssh into my server without having to use my laptop or android. There is just something about old devices, the sliding up to show a physical keyboard, with a lightweight Linux distro as opposed to a bloated Android with spyware and ads.
I have been looking at modding an old iPod to listen to my music since I go into some dead spots for phone service as well as I hate paying for a music service. Even this website itself is an escape into my nostalgia. '

'I'm starting this blog to just share what I'm doing and have a few updates. I'm not entirely sure what I want to write about just yet. I guess just starting a new site helps alieve some anxiety and keeps me distracted with a busy schedule. '
